On Wesnesday 16th August 2014 the Bournemouth Hayward League Representative side played Brockenhurst, at Grigg Lane, for the Dave Lane Memorial Sheild.

The Hayward Saturday Premier League’s Daily Echo Golden Boot winner Steve Flynn struck twice for the Bournemouth Hayward League XI but it was not enough to prevent a 5-2 defeat at Brockenhurst in Wednesday night’s Dave Lane Memorial Shield match.

The Wessex Premier outfit opened the scoring after 19 minutes with a superb 20 yard strike into the corner of the net by Martyn Randall. The Hayward League were on terms two minutes before the interval when Darren Saunders’ free kick from the half way line was headed past the ‘keeper by Steve Flynn. Brockenhurst restored their lead immediately though from a neat move down the left which resulted in Brad Magookin’s pin point cross being volleyed home brilliantly by Dan Smith.

Two goals in as many minutes early in the second half from Matt Gray and Tom Ashton gave Brockenhurst an unassailable lead but the Hayward League reduced the deficit after 70 minutes when they found Steve Flynn in space on the left and he slotted the ball neatly inside the far post. Defender Dan Maher added a fifth goal for the Badgers in the last minute.
